Santee Cooper adds third potential nuclear purchaser
The S.C.-owned utility announced today it has signed a letter of intent to negotiate a potential minority interest with Florida Municipal Power Agency for a portion of the two planned new nuclear reactors in Fairfield County. Earlier this week, Santee Cooper said it was in similar negotiations with Duke Energy Carolinas.
Energy, Defense contract with Columbia supplier
Logan Energy Carolina LLC will be assembling in Columbia the clean-energy units it will install and operate in 18 fuel cell backup power systems at eight military installations, the Department of Energy and Department of Defense announced this week.
South Carolina jobless rate ticks up again in June
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 10.5% in June from 10% in May, the state Department of Employment and Workforce reported today. Lexington County continues to have the lowest jobless rate in the state, at 8.8%, while Marion County has the highest rate, at 20.1%.
Bishopville tax preparer guilty of filing false tax return
Melissa S. Woods, 48, a tax preparer in Bishopville, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District court in Columbia to aiding and assisting in the preparation of a false federal income tax return, U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles announced.
