Otis Elevator to bring manufacturing plant to Florence
The 423,000-square-foot facility, which will feature a 150-foot test tower, will include manufacturing, engineering, a contract logistics center and field support operations. It will employ more than 360.
South Carolina’s jobless rate ticks up in August
The state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 11.1% last month from 10.9% in July. Manufacturing employment was up for the seventh straight month, however, and government, business and professional jobs also increased.
USC selected for Reynolds visiting professor program
Besides teaching, visiting business journalism professors will help establish partnerships with local business media and contribute to BusinessJournalism.org and Reynolds Center webinars. The program also will provide funding for business journalism internships.
Businesses to see savings from lower tax rates
The lower rates will result in significant credit and refund amounts totaling approximately $80 million in savings for the first half of the year. The revised tax rate notices will inform businesses of the new tax rate they should use to file their third- and fourth-quarter reports.

Ken Brock
Ken Brock has joined Glenforest School as the new development officer, where he will spearhead fundraising and development efforts for the nonprofit organization. Brock has been involved with Glenforest School for more than a decade. Prior to joining Glenforest School, Brock has 34 years of experience in commercial banking.
Cynthia Durham Blair
Cynthia Durham Blair, a shareholder in Rogers Townsend & Thomas who heads the firm’s transactional law department, has been selected for the Leadership South Carolina Class of 2012. Blair serves as a board member of the S.C. Women Lawyer’s Association and is a past president of both the Palmetto Land Title Association and the Mortgage Lenders Association of Columbia.
