Food Lion to close 14 stores in South Carolina
Delhaize Group said Thursday it will close 113 under-performing Food Lion supermarkets, including 14 in South Carolina. The company also will phase out its Bloom brand and close several Bottom Dollar Food stores. The cost-cutting is expected to lead to 5,000 job losses.
Wells Fargo: S.C. jobless rate belies state's strengths
John E. Silvia, the chief economist at Wells Fargo, said the 9.9% unemployment rate in S.C. oversimplifies the state’s economy. On net, nonfarm employment in S.C. is up one percent year-over-year and personal income is also up 5% year-over-year, he said.
Providence Hospitals receives Duke Endowment grant
The Duke Endowment provided a $195,404 grant to Providence Hospitals to use for a new program that aims to provide care to elderly Midlands residents. The program was launched to help decrease the number of readmissions to the hospital.
Nexsen Pruet attorney elected president of trade group
April Lucas has been elected president of the Midlands International Trade Association. The group helps its members gain knowledge and make contacts to develop their international business.
Columbia International University names new registrar
Jennifer L. Booth will begin her duties Feb. 1 at Columbia International University. Booth comes to CIU from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.
