DOE seeks comments on plans to fund first SMRs
The U.S. Department of Energy anticipates one or two federal awards totaling up to $452 million to companies that win the competition to build the first of the small modular reactors. The request for comments specifies that the DOE grant includes at least a dollar-for-dollar match from the private partner to receive the federal grant.
Southern First to open new office in Forest Acres
Greenville-based Southern First Bank plans to break ground on its third Midlands branch this quarter, officials said. The company first moved to the Midlands in 2007 and has grown local deposits to about $140 million in its Lexington and Cayce offices.
SCANA, subsidiaries pay $150M in S.C. property taxes
The amount represented an 8% increase over the $142 million paid in 2010. Lexington County, the location of SCANA’s headquarters, received the largest single tax payment of $28.7 million.
Amazon to open in Spartanburg this fall
Amazon formally announced its plans today to invest around $50 million in a Spartanburg County distribution center. An official said the online retailer is on its way to creating 2,000 jobs in S.C.

Davis elected to women’s professional board
Marsha Davis of Colliers International has been elected to the 2012 board of the Commercial Real Estate Women Midlands South Carolina network. In 2011, Davis completed more than $17 million worth of transactions involving 183,000 square feet of space.
