DHEC nominates new environmental agency director
Former Charleston labor attorney Catherine Templeton has been selected to lead the DHEC board and succeed Earl Hunter, who is retiring. The change in leadership comes at a time when the organization is at the eye of a political storm over the development of new port facilities on the Savannah River.
Statewide housing shows signs of improvement
The S.C. Realtors released its annual report, which indicated the state’s housing market is on the mend. The report cited a slowdown in layoffs, uptick in hiring, and reduction in the number of homes in financial distress as indicators that the economy is improving.
Firm’s special assets division exceeds projections
Grubb & Ellis Wilson Kibler said its special assets division handled the sale and purchase of more than 100 single-family lots in the Columbia and Greenville markets in December alone. The commercial real estate firm said it forecasts a “good, but unpredictable year” for the housing market in South Carolina.
Nucor Corp. plans to expand in Darlington
North America's largest steel bar producer plans further expansion of its special bar quality production capabilities over the next two years. The $290 million expansion will include projects at its Memphis, Tenn., Norfolk, Neb. and Darlington steel mills.
State commerce hires agribusiness recruiter
Allison Amick Barry joins the S.C. Department of Commerce’s Global Business Development division as the new agribusiness project manager. Barry is charged with recruiting agribusiness companies to bring investment and jobs to South Carolina.
