South Carolina boosts exports 21% in 2011

The state ranked first among U.S. states in tire exports, holding nearly 30% of the share of U.S.-made exported tires. The state also ranked first in exports of automobiles to the world, surpassing Michigan.

Greenville ranks high in export growth potential

The U.S. Conference of Mayors issued a report that said the Greenville area ranks among the top five metro areas for growth in exports. The study also pointed to the need for more investment in infrastructure to help grow jobs.

Texas city buys Avtec radio console system

The 911 radio console system from Gilbert-based Avtec features open standards, allowing the city of Richardson, Texas to connect the system to various components from different vendors. Avtec said it is their first P25 CSSI project in North America to go live.

Gov. Haley vetoes Savannah River-DHEC bill

The bill, which passed unanimously in both state chambers, would have suspended the authority of the Department of Health and Environmental Control over the Savannah River. In her veto, Gov. Nikki Haley called the joint resolution an "unconstitutional legislative overreaching into an agency's ruling."

BMW's S.C. plant produced 25,931 units in January

BMW produced 12,452 X3 units in January at its Spartanburg County plant, which is roughly four times the number of X6 units produced during that same month. The plant produced 9,514 X5 units and 3,965 X6 units in January. In 2011, BMW boosted production at its Spartanburg plant more than 80%.
