Department of Energy unveils SMR partnerships at SRS

Hyperion Power Generation, SMR LLC and NuScale Power LLC will begin to develop plans to deploy small modular reactors at the Savannah River Site under the agreements. The federal agency said it expects private-sector funding will be used to develop these technologies and support deployment plans.

Central SC Alliance fielding many inquires

The economic development alliance is currently working with about 60 prospective businesses looking for new locations. President Mike Briggs said site preferences have changed to greenfield sites from the existing, vacant plant facilities that were in vogue in recent years.

BMW’s S.C. facility becomes lead U.S. auto exporter

The German automaker said that the export value of its passenger vehicles through the Port of Charleston in 2011 totaled $7.4 billion, making the Spartanburg County plant the leading U.S. automotive exporter. The plant contributed more than $4.4 billion in 2010.

Haley names LLR staff attorney to run agency

Holly Gillespie Pisarik was named by Gov. Nikki Haley to serve as director of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Pisarik served as chief advice counsel to former LLR chief Catherine Templeton, who’s now director at the state DHEC.

BMW to display 1st all-electric vehicle in S.C.

BMW will display the ActiveE at the IEEE International Electric Vehicle Conference in Greenville March 4-8. BMW’s first all-electric vehicle accelerates from 0–60 mph in under nine seconds.
