NRC approves AP1000 reactor design

With the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s ruling certifying the reactor design, SCE&G and its partner Santee Cooper are just days from getting final approval to build two 1,100-megawatt units at its Fairfield County nuclear power station.

New S.C. immigration law to affect employers

Although a federal judge has blocked parts of South Carolina’s new immigration law, sections affecting businesses will still go into effect Jan. 1. U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel left intact a provision requiring employers to use the federal electronic database E-Verify to check workers' eligibility.

S.C. Farm Bureau honors Fairfield County man

William Coleman received the farm bureau's distinguished service award during its annual meeting in Myrtle Beach recently. Coleman operates Wico Farm where he grows turkeys for Prestige Farms. He also raises beef cattle, and grows wheat, hay, cotton and timber.
