SCDOT to develop plan to move freight from portThe state Department of Transportation wants to develop a 20-year multimodal plan to move freight from the Port of Charleston throughout South Carolina. The plan stems from efforts of the recently-launched Transportation, Distribution and Logistics Council, which aims to provide a single voice for the TDL industry in South Carolina. Builders predict slow growth in 2012 constructionThe Associated Builders and Contractors released its 2012 forecast, which predicted marginal gains in privately-financed construction and a slight decrease in public projects. Nonresidential construction spending is expected to grow 2.4% in 2012 following a 2.4% decrease in 2011, the trade group reported. |

HUD awards $7M to 49 S.C. homeless programsThe funding recently announced will ensure South Carolina housing and service programs for homeless people remain operating in 2012. The funding will help provide permanent and transitional housing, as well as job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment and child care. Junior volunteers sought for PGA eventThe 2012 PGA Championship, which will be played on Kiawah Island from Aug. 9-12, is soliciting junior volunteers to handle various duties during the tournament. Each volunteer will receive a PGA Championship golf shirt and an event-branded baseball cap, as well as complimentary meal and water vouchers. |
