Soaring cotton prices good for S.C. farmers

Farmers are expected to devote more acreage to cotton this year as they try to take advantage of prices that have soared on global commodity markets. The crop reached a high of $2.12 a pound as a result of global demand and weather problems in other cotton-producing countries

Local homebuilders look to Capitol Hill for capital

Eleven members of the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia converged on Capitol Hill with 500 builders from across the country to call on Congress to “restore the flow” of acquisition, development and construction lending.

Graduation rates down; overall ratings improve

On-time graduation rates for a majority of the state’s high schools, and for the state as a whole, declined on annual report cards released this week by the S.C. Department of Education. Overall, however, high school and district ratings improved.
