UK minister touts green policies for business

Gregory Barker was joined by U.K. business leaders, U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and S.C. officials for a green economy discussion this morning at the Darla Moore School of Business. Graham, who recently toured the U.K. to learn about its new energy initiative, said the United States should “steal” that country’s so-called Green Deal.

Energy Dept. grant boosts training for nuclear workforce

The $935,000 will be used by five area colleges and universities to train workers for existing and future nuclear-related and other high-technology jobs. The grant was awarded to the SRS Community Reuse Organization’s Nuclear Workforce Initiative.

S.C. farmers plan 10% jump in soybean planting

Soybeans represent the largest acreage crop for S.C. farmers, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Most major crops are expected to be expanded in acreage this year, with the largest percentage increases coming in cotton and wheat in South Carolina. This increase in soybean acreage would exceed the national trend.

TD Bank names Carolinas leadership team

The bank, which will rebrand its recently acquired Carolina First assets this year, announced its leadership team for its S.C. and Wilmington, N.C., markets. David Lominack is market president for the newly combined Upstate, Piedmont and Midlands region.

‘Transparency Act’ near to becoming law

The S.C. House of Representatives this week voted to accept the Senate’s amendments to the House bill H.3004, which requires roll call voting in both the House and Senate on major legislation.

Vision launches Columbia service today

Vision Airlines launches flight service today between Columbia Metropolitan Airport and Northwest Florida Regional Airport, serving the Florida panhandle resort community.
