S.C.-built SAVs help boost BMW’s   June sales

The German automaker   reported U.S. sales of light trucks, including the X3, X5 and X6, rose 21.5%   in June to 7,489. Overall, BMW brand sales in the United States increased   0.4% in June for a total of 21,725 units compared with 21,637 vehicles sold   in June 2011.

S.C. State to participate in NASA   satellite mission

South Carolina State   University and the University of Michigan are working with NASA to design,   launch and operate the Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System. The system   will consist of eight small satellites that will be carried into orbit on a   single launch in order to improve tropical cyclone and extreme weather   prediction.

S.C. receives $15M grant to   improve public health

The U.S. Department of   Health and Human Services awarded South Carolina $15 million to improve   public health services and disaster preparedness. The grant is part of a $971   million fund for the Hospital Preparedness Program and the Public Health   Emergency Preparedness cooperative agreements.

Garvin Design adds LEED   specialist

Megan Craig, an Augusta   native, received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in architecture from   Clemson University. Craig also has more than two years of experience as an   intern architect.
