PalmettoNet to combine with Spirit Telecom
PalmettoNet, which operates fiber-optic networks in the across South Carolina, will combine with Spirit Telecom, a South Carolina-based local exchange carrier. The combined company will do business as Spirit Communications.
BAE Systems receives contracts for 2 S.C. locations
The Army selected BAE Systems and 15 other contractors for a $997 million contract for technology systems. BAE also received $108.4 million to provide Hercules vehicles and parts to the Army and Marine Corps. Part of that work will be done in Aiken.
BMW hiring again, adding health center
BMW Manufacturing said today it will add 100 jobs at its Spartanburg County plant; launch a new training program with Upstate technical colleges; and build a health center to provide on-site primary care for employees, retirees and eligible dependents.
Companion Life named to Ward Group's top 50
The Ward’s 50 list comprises the top 50 performing life and health insurance companies in the United States. Columbia-based Companion Life provides a variety of health insurance products for employer groups.
Silver Crescent announces 22 finalists
Twenty-two companies from across the state will compete for honors in the 2011 Silver Crescent Awards for Manufacturing Excellence program Sept. 22 in Greenville. Categories include small, midsized and large manufacturers and an IT in Manufacturing award.

NAI Avant agents Ben Kelly and Patrick Chambers represented the landlord in the 10-year net retail lease. The new, freestanding coffee shop by Seattle-based Starbucks is located at 5555 Sunset Blvd. in Lexington.
