Import and export prices rise in March

Total import prices jumped 2.7% in March, recording the sixth consecutive monthly gain above 1%. Large gains were recorded in food and fuel. Export prices also rose during the month.

Former S.C. DOT worker charged with credit card abuse

Denise L. Johnson of Conway has been accused of making fraudulent purchases with a state-issued credit card. The S.C. Law Enforcement Division has charged her with breach of trust.

Powell to speak at S.C. State spring commencement

Former U.S. Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell will give the keynote address at the spring commencement at S.C. State University. The ceremony will be at 7 p.m. May 6 at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium on campus. Powell served 35 years in the Army, was an aide to the secretary of defense and was a national security adviser to President Ronald Reagan before becoming the 65th secretary of state in 2001, in the administration of President George W. Bush.
